Welcome to Violet Class! In Year 6, we focus on building independence, responsibility, and readiness for secondary school. Children take on leadership roles in the classroom and across the school, growing into confident, thoughtful learners.

This half term our topic is βWe are Geographers!β
Throughout this topic, the children will develop their geographical skills, including map reading, fieldwork and using digital mapping tools. They will build their understanding of how geographers explore and interpret the world around them.
This is a summary of some of the learning we will be covering.

πββοΈ PE Days: Monday and Friday
Children must wear their outdoor PE kit. Earrings must be removed or covered with plastersβstaff cannot remove them. -
π Reading Books & Logs:
Children should bring their reading book and log every day. Logs should be signed weekly by an adult. Library books can be borrowed for two weeks. -
βοΈ Spellings:
Weekly spellings are uploaded to Spelling Shed. Regular practice is essentialβplease support your child at home. -
π» Homework:
Weekly tasks are set on SPaG.com, Maths.co.uk, and TT Rockstars. Login details are providedβplease keep a copy at home.
βοΈEnglish
- We will be developing our writing skills across a range of genres, including recounts, narratives and persuasive letters π
- The children will explore narrative writing techniques such as dialogue and flashbacks to enhance their stories.
- We will also continue to focus on spelling, with weekly spellings set on Spelling Shed β
πReading
- Reading continues to be a very important part of our learning and supports understanding across all subjects.
- Children should read at home each night and discuss what they have read to develop comprehension and fluency.
- Please remember to sign their Reading Log regularly β
π’Mathematics
- We will be learning about statistics, algebra, position and direction, units of measure and financial education π
- The children will develop their problem-solving skills and apply their knowledge to a range of practical contexts.
- They will also be encouraged to practise key skills through online platforms such as TT Rockstars π»
π§Geography
- As part of our βWe are Geographers!β topic, we will develop our fieldwork and mapping skills.
- We will learn how to use grid references, compass points and map scales.
- We will also explore digital mapping technologies, including using Digimaps, to support our understanding of the world πΊοΈ
π±Science
- In Science, we will be learning about Living Things and Their Habitats.
- We will explore how living things are classified and how they adapt to their environments.
- We will also consider how environments can change and the impact this has on living things.
βοΈReligious Education
- In RE, we will explore the question βHow might pilgrimage transform peopleβs lives?β.
- We will learn about different religious journeys and their significance.
- We will also reflect on how experiences can influence beliefs and values.
πPSHE
- Our Jigsaw topic this half term is βChanging Meβ.
- We will learn about relationships and how our bodies change.
- We will also discuss how to stay safe, make positive choices and prepare for the transition to secondary school πβ¨
πPhysical Education
- PE will take place on Monday and Friday, and children should come to school in their PE kit on these days π
- We will take part in cricket and orienteering, helping to develop teamwork, coordination and problem-solving skills πͺ
- Please ensure children have suitable kit. If your child has pierced ears, earrings must be removed before school or covered with plasters.
