We have lots of exciting events coming up this half term!

  • 🎀 Wednesday 1st July – Early Years Class Assembly (9:00am – parents/carers welcome)
  • πŸŽ’ Tuesday 7th July – Transition Day
  • πŸŽ‰ Thursday 9th July – Summer Fair

As we move towards the end of the year, we will also begin preparing the children for their transition into their new class, helping them feel confident and ready for their next step 😊

πŸ“š What We’re Learning

  • Communication, Language and Literacy ✏️

We will be reading What the Ladybird Heard at the Seaside 🐞🌊 as well as other seaside-themed stories. The children will be retelling these stories and acting them out using puppets and costumes 🎭. Our role play area will be transformed into a seaside, including a fish and chip shop 🍟 and sand area. We will also explore non-fiction books about seaside animals 🐚🐠

We will be learning the phonemes j, v, w, y, z. The children will work on identifying initial sounds and orally blending simple CVC words.

πŸ”’ Mathematics

  • We will be exploring the composition of numbers to 4, helping children understand how numbers can be made in different ways. We will also be finding missing numbers up to 5 and beginning to recognise numerals in the environment.
  • The children will take part in practical activities such as counting objects, matching quantities and using songs and games to develop their early number skills πŸŽ²πŸ”’

🌍 Understanding the World

  • During our seaside topic, we will learn about the season of Summer β˜€οΈ and discuss changes we notice.
  • The children will explore seaside environments, compare materials such as sand and pebbles, and learn about marine life πŸŸπŸ¦€.
  • We will also talk about how life at the seaside is different from where we live and how seaside holidays have changed over time.

πŸƒ Physical Development

  • We will be practising skills such as hopping, skipping and balancing, helping to develop coordination and body control. The children will also take part in activities to strengthen their fine motor skills, including using a comfortable pencil grip and developing control when drawing and mark making ✏️
  • πŸ“… Nursery PE Day: Thursday

❀️ Personal, Social & Emotional Development

  • We will continue following our Jigsaw programme. This half term’s focus is β€œChanging Me”. The children will learn about how to stay healthy and safe, including understanding their bodies and making positive choices.

They will have opportunities to reflect on their learning and experiences across the year, thinking about what they are proud of and what they have enjoyed 😊. We will also support the children in preparing for their transition into their new class, helping them to feel confident and excited about the changes ahead πŸŽ’βœ¨

We will also talk about special places and people that are important to us, and continue to develop positive relationships, sharing and working together with others.

🎨 Expressive Arts & Design

  • We will be creating seaside-themed artwork, including observational drawings and paintings of sea animals πŸ πŸ–ŒοΈ. The children will explore a range of materials and techniques, using different types of paint and colouring equipment to express their ideas creatively.

They will also take part in our whole school music day 🎢πŸ₯, experimenting with different instruments and sounds. In addition, the children will continue developing their construction skills by learning how to join materials in different ways, including using split pins to create moving models πŸ”§

Opportunities for imaginative play will continue through our seaside role play, where children can explore and express their ideas through storytelling and creativity 🌊🎭

🐹 Meet Our Nursery Guinea Pigs!

Say hello to our adorable classroom companionsβ€”our Nursery guinea pigs! These gentle little creatures bring so much joy and comfort to Rainbow Class. Children love helping to care for them, watching them nibble their snacks, and learning how to be kind and gentle with animals.

Having guinea pigs in the classroom helps teach responsibility, empathy, and curiosity about the world around us. Whether they’re snuggled in their cozy bedding or squeaking for a treat, they’re always a favourite part of our day! πŸ’›

We make sure they’re well looked after, and children are involved in feeding, cleaning, and giving them plenty of love. πŸ₯•πŸ§Ί
