Art
Intent Our art curriculum is designed to provide our children with the necessary skills, concepts and knowledge to allow them to express their responses to ideas and experiences in a visual or tactile form. It is our belief that a well-designed art curriculum can help to fire pupils’ imagination and is a fundamental means of personal expression. Our aim is for all children to have the opportunity to engage with meaningful learning experiences in art lessons, regardless of their individual ability. Through the teaching of the Early Years curriculum and the KS1 and KS2 National Curriculum for Art and Design, we aim to ensure that we provide all of our pupils with a valuable educational, as well as social and cultural, experience which provides opportunities for reflection as well as the development of practical skills.

Implementation Our bespoke Art curriculum provides children with opportunities to develop their skills in art using a range of media and materials. Children have the opportunity to explore and evaluate different creative ideas developing skills in drawing, painting, printing, collage and 3D work. Children have the opportunity to study a range of works by famous artists to develop knowledge of styles. This is often taught discretely in art lessons however we also seize opportunities for children to apply their learning across the wider curriculum. Art is displayed in school to motivate and inspire others and also to celebrate the pupils’ artwork in their own classrooms. |
Impact
Our Art Curriculum is planned to demonstrate progression and to stimulate creativity. Pupils are clear about what the intended outcomes are and in Art lessons, children are reflective and evaluate their own and each other’s work, thinking about how they can make changes to keep improving. This is meaningful and continuous throughout the process, with evidence of age-related verbal and written reflection. At the end of a unit of learning, teachers will record the outcomes and any misconceptions or gaps in learning are addressed to ensure the curriculum meets the needs of all pupils.
