Geography

At Lowerhouses CE Primary School, our Geography curriculum helps children make sense of the world around them. We want pupils to develop curiosity about places, people, and environments, both near and far. Through engaging lessons, children learn to ask questions, explore maps, and carry out fieldwork, building a strong understanding of how the world works.

To make progression clear and accessible, each Geography topic page now includes a Learning Journey. These journeys show how knowledge and skills build step by step across year groups, helping children, parents, and staff see the pathway of geographical learning from EYFS through to Year 6.

By following these journeys, pupils can connect their learning across themes such as local studies, global trade, rivers, mountains, and extreme environments. This structure supports awe and wonder, critical thinking, and responsible citizenship, ensuring children leave with the knowledge and skills they need to understand their place in the world and contribute positively to it.
